A Shoeboxed alternative that keeps your receipts on your computer
Shoeboxed is a service. You mail them the paper or snap it, and they store the documents for you. That is the right product if you want someone else to hold the archive. It is the wrong one if the point is that your receipts stay with you.
When Shoeboxed is the right choice
If you have a box of paper you never want to touch again, Shoeboxed will take it by mail and scan it for you. DropSheet cannot do that. If outsourcing the scanning is what you need, use Shoeboxed.
When DropSheet fits better
- You already have the receipts as photos or PDFs. Drop them in and get a spreadsheet in a few minutes, without mailing anything.
- You want to own the file. DropSheet writes an Excel or CSV that lives on your computer. There is no account holding your archive.
- You do not want a subscription. DropSheet is $29.99 once.

How long the receipts are kept
Shoeboxed publishes retention periods in two places. The privacy policy says raw data is deleted from databases and applications within six months of a deletion request, and may remain in backups for up to three years. The GDPR page says raw data is deleted within ninety days, with document backups up to one year and account backups up to three. Both pages are theirs, and the figures differ. With DropSheet there is no retention period, because nothing is stored on our end. Close the tab and the rows are gone unless you exported them.
What you give up
No mail-in service, no cloud archive you can log into from anywhere, no integrations with accounting software. Faded thermal receipts often cannot be read, and the row is flagged for you to type the total.

No. You photograph the receipts yourself, on a phone or a scanner, and drop the images in.
