DropSheet / Expensify alternative
An Expensify alternative for one person, paid once
Expensify is built for companies: approvals, reimbursements, card feeds, a finance team signing off. If you are one person turning a year of receipts into a spreadsheet, most of that is weight you pay for every month.
When Expensify is the right choice
If you submit expenses to an employer, need manager approval, get reimbursed through payroll, or want your company card to sync automatically, use Expensify. DropSheet does none of that and is not trying to.
When DropSheet fits better
- You are self-employed or freelance. Nobody approves your expenses. You just need the numbers in a sheet for Schedule C.
- You use it a few weeks a year. A monthly plan for a job you do at tax time is the wrong shape of cost. DropSheet is $29.99 once.
- You would rather the photos stayed on your computer. Expensify reads receipts on its servers. DropSheet reads them in your browser and never uploads them.

Where the receipt image goes
Expensify publishes a subprocessor list, and it names the companies that receive receipt images for transcription, including OpenAI. That is disclosure working properly, and worth reading before you upload a year of receipts. The full comparison of eight apps is on where receipt apps send your data.
With DropSheet there is nothing to disclose on this point, because the image is never sent anywhere. You can check that yourself: open your browser's network panel and drop a receipt in.
What you give up
Being straight about it: no mobile app with auto-capture, no bank or card sync, no mileage tracking, no team features. Faded thermal receipts often cannot be read, and the row is flagged for you to type the total. If any of those matter, Expensify is the better tool.
Four sample rows are already loaded on the homepage. Drop one of yours on top.
Questions
Is DropSheet a free Expensify alternative?
No. The demo on the homepage exports the first 6 rows so you can see it work on your own receipts. The full version is $29.99 once, with no monthly fee.
Can DropSheet replace Expensify for a freelancer?
For turning receipts into a spreadsheet, yes. For approvals, reimbursement or card syncing, no. Most freelancers only need the first.
Does DropSheet upload my receipts like Expensify does?
No. Photos, PDFs and pasted email text are read in your browser. Nothing is sent to a server.
